Welcome To Percy Shurmer Academy

Percy Shurmer Academy is part of the Academies Enterprise Trust.

We aim for all children and adults to flourish at Percy Shurmer Academy.  What this means to us is that they:

  • gain the skills, knowledge and confidence to achieve all they can
  • develop a love of learning and enjoy their time at the Academy
  • make friends and show respect to others
  • broaden their experiences and understanding of the wider world

We will work closely with families, the Academies Enterprise Trust, the local community, our network of schools and Academies in this shared endeavour.

UNICEF UK Rights Respecting Schools Award

Percy Shurmer Academy is working towards becoming a UNICEF Rights Respecting Schools Award school.

The UNICEF UK Rights Respecting Schools Award (RRSA) is based on principles of equality, dignity, respect, nondiscrimination and participation. The RRSA seeks to put the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child at the heart of a school’s ethos and culture to improve well-being and develop every child’s talents and abilities to their full potential. A rights-respecting school is a community where children’s rights are learned, taught, practised, respected, protected and promoted. Young people and the school community learn about children’s rights by putting them into practice every day.

Birmingham Royal Ballet (09/03/2016)

The Birmingham Royal Ballet made an exciting visit to Percy Shurmer Academy to teach the Year 1's about different ways in which we can move and use our bodies. We spent the morning learning different types of stretches and jumps, some of which they use in their own ballet routines on stage. We ended the morning performing our very own routines to each other.
