What does Physical Education look like at Percy Shurmer Academy?

At Percy Shurmer Academy we recognise the importance of physical education. All children have the chance to participate in an additional hour of  daily exercise during break and lunchtime. A wide variety of Sporting equipment is provided for children to encourage active play times whether it be playing football in the cage, table tennis, skipping or dancing on the stage.

Each child has the opportunity to participate in 2 hours of Physical Education lessons a week which comprise of games, Swimming, fitness, gymnastic and dance. Please see the PE Curriculum Map which outlines what your child is doing during the year. We provide many extra-curricular sporting clubs and activities where we encourage all children to join as many clubs as possible. We have made strong links with local sporting clubs and encourage our children to continue to attend these clubs outside of school. Please see the After School Club timetable for clubs offered throughout the year.

At the end of every unit we hold level one (intra- competitions) which link to the themes taught within the Physical Education lessons. These competitions allow our children to experience healthy competition both individually and as team.

As well as intra-competitions we are also affiliated to the South Birmingham Primary School Football Association and regularly compete with local schools in a variety of sporting events. Events entered in the past include Football, Hockey, Athletics, Tag-Rugby, Dodgeball, Basketball and Tennis.
